He did years ago including owning a horse ranch. As of 2012, I do not know if he is still riding.

I don't know if it is official but the King Ranch is in Texas. King Ranch was more or less the birthplace of the American Quarter Horse.

Being a good rider does not determine what kind of horse to get, owning a horse and riding a horse are two very different things. You need to be able to control the horse from the ground as well as from the saddle. Do your research, and get to know the horse you want to buy before taking him home.
Is it hard to own a horse?
Not if you know what you are doing. You have to think about costs as well. You should know how much hay, grooming tolls, vet, and board costs. If you are new into the horse business, it's best to volunteer before actually owning your own horse. Many ranches or farms love volunteers and would be happy to teach you more.
Can 10 year olds have a horse?
Yes a ten year old can have a horse provided they know how to care for the horse and the parent or parents are willing to pay for the expense of owning a horse. Before owning your own horse you should be able to feed, groom, tack up, ride reasonably well, preform first aid and recognize signs of illness and injury in a horse. If you do not have any experience in any of those things it would be best to take lessons and possibly lease a horse before owning one.

Hi, I'm completely horse mad and the only film I know of like this is called 'Sylvester' I have it myself on DVD but she doesn't do show jumping she does eventing but I'm sure this is the film you are thinking of. The horse does start of in a ranch though :)

you have to know the horse. it depends on its personality. if its wild, calm, shy, hiper....learn about training them before hand and find outabout the horse, get to know it. GOOD LUCK!

Most horses will hurt you if they do not know you. After owning a horse for 3 years, he might let you kiss him. Some horses will never let you kiss them and if you try, you will be attacked.
First riding horse?
If your looking for a first riding horse for your daughter/son, the best things the horse could have is : Being Bomproof ( Does not spook easily) No Vices ( No bucking, No kicking, No biting ect.) The right height ( depending on your child's height, 14hh + - The right attitude (pony with a good loving character) P.S If you do not know a lot about horses, its better to get some advice from someone who does, because owning a pony is a long term investment. Do not buy a horse before you have seen it.
