green board
The term "blackboard" originates from the traditional color of the writing surface, which is typically black or dark gray. This color allowed for high contrast with white or colored chalk, making it easier to read from a distance. While modern boards can be green or other colors, the name "blackboard" has persisted due to historical conventions. The green board, often referred to as "greenboard," is just a variation that became popular later.
Many theories have been put forward to explain why the blackboard is green. One theory was that the green was chosen to be pleasing on the eyes. Since students need to focus on what is written on the board, manufacturers picked the color green. Tests also proved that other colors such as yellow or orange could strain the eyes if starred for long. Today the blackboard come in different colors. After green, it is Black and White which are popularly used.
