Sweet potato pie is usually made with a regular single pie crust made with flour, lard / shortening, a bit of salt and cold water. The crust should not be pre-baked. Also, a graham-cracker pie crust is quite tasty with sweet potato pie.
I always used a pumkin bag I bought.
First you cut a whole in the top of a pumkin and then take out the seeds. Then you just use a sharp knife and cut a shape(s) in the pumkin. Last if you want you can put a candle in it or some kind of light to make it stand out. (If you want put the top of the pumkin that you cut in step one back on top.)
Pumkin stencils are a piece of paper that you tape on to a pumkin. They have a design of your choice on it, using a knife you follow the lines and cut out a pattern on to your pumkin.
