Duh.....Pretty much no one wants taxes taken out! Not having enough taken out will subject you to penalties and interest. (Understand, even if you don't work as an employee with a paycheck from an employer that withholds....you MUST make estimated payments through the year on the tax you would ultimately have due on April 15, or pay penalty, interest and actually have many more problems befall you). Fill out the W-4 correctly. The correct amount, more or less, will be withheld and paid over on your behalf. W-4 allow for special circumstances...if you just make them up -like claiming 100 dependents..it will set off alerts. Certainly, the way to pay the least tax DOES NOT INCLUDE doing anything to draw any special attention to yourself...like claiming your exempt or such.

Your husband and you draw Social Security and have tax taken out before you receive your check When you file your taxes do you have to again pay taxes on that money?

When you file you will calculate the correct amount of taxes that you actually owe. If not enough was taken out, you will have to pay more. If too much was taken out, you will get a refund. Yes the tax you had withheld is taxable...the entire amount you receive, whether you put it in a savings account at the bank, or one with the IRS is taxable. Tax due isn't deductible from taxable income...that would be circular.
