It depends on what type of drug they are addicted to. Addiction is mainly caused because the person using feels that they cannot function efficiently without being on the certain prescription (if pills are the case) But, if the person using is taking more than the recommended dosage, then they are most likely taking the prescription for recreational purposes (getting an opiate high or just to feel out of it) If you have a friend relying on prescription drugs, try to find out why they are addicted, whether they are sad, angry, or if they feel useless. Once you know more, then you can suggest ways for them to stop using frequently. While they may notice withdrawal symptoms, using less frequently can save a lot of damage from happening to their vital organs due to certain ingredients in the pill (i.e. acetaminophen can damage your liver). Let them know that they can really damage their body, and tell them that you are here to help them.
