This is something you are going to have to feel your way through. Whatever works best. I would start at about 8 degrees advanced initial. The motor will ping heavily if you adv ance it too far, but, I have gone as high as 14 advanced, initial, or 36, total. (With a trick distributor. No stock dist., will give you 22 degrees of advance.) The cam, compression, altitude, outside temperature, fuel mixture, and fuel quality dictate timing. The more advanced the better, for performance. If you just want to set it, and forget it, then 8 degrees, will work just fine.
