To set the timing on a Toyota 22R engine find the distributor. The engine will have marks at which the distributor can be set. The OEM setting for a 22R engine is 5 degrees.
The spark plug gap on a 1991 Toyota pick with a 4 cylinder, 22R 5-speed engine should be set at .031 inches. This is equal to .8 mm.
You don't jump any terminals. I'm assuming your talking about using the DLC. Hook a timing light to the number one spark plug wire and loosen the clamp bolt on the distributor a little. Timing should be a 36-38 degrees BTD.
Spark plug gap is .031in., distributor Point gap .012in. , ignition timing is set at 0 degrees TDC at 700 rpm for a manual transmission and 750 rpm for an auto transmission.
I only know about the 2004 V6 I have. There is no way to set the timing. The engine computer controls the timing. Not much one can do to newer cars today. Some of the members of the Toyota Nation forum are interested in more power and performance. Maybe one of them can tell you how to set the timing. If you are talking about changing the timing belt, visit Toyota Nation forum.

how do you set timing on 110cc engine
Hey Ron==The timing is controled buy the ecm and is nonadjustable. Good luck Joe
no. if the belt breaks just replace it making sure the cam timing is properly set
What should the timing be on a 92 Toyota 3.0
You MUST have a engine scanner to set the timing. The timing on that engine is computer controlled.
That seems OK to me, as you don't say how much advance, in total degrees your getting. I believe the initial timing is set at 5 BTDC as that's what my 84 22R-RN sets at. I could be wrong, as the timing spec's for California truckss, are sometimes different than the other 49 states, so we can breathe out here.
