Curley is portrayed in the novel as a pessimistic character through his violent actions. Especially the fight he has with the most innocent character of them all Lennie. Steinbeck uses Curley as a target to George when he fights with Lennie. Although Curley is marred to his wife it is evident that she doesn't have a name showing how Steinbeck uses her name as a type of possession to Curley. Curley initially has no power in the novel at all as his so called characteristics are outdone once slim is introduced to the novel showing how Steinbeck uses slim to foreshadow what Curley is really meant to be like.

Curley is extremely arrogant especially the way he is introduced in the novel. the character himself bosses son is evil which shows how curley is presented badly in the novel.

What does steinback want us to think about curly and his wife do you think that there is a reason for them behaving this way?

Steinback want us to think about curley and his wife because his wife is a tart, every men of the ranch thinks that way.She always flirt with other guys although her hushband curley always care about her & wants to be with her but can't find her. Moreover curley's wife spend her time flirting with other guys of the ranch specially slim. And whenever she finds a chance to flirt and to show her body she pushed her body forward so that her body can be seen by everybody. This shows that she use her body for attention. On the other hand about curley he always wants to pick a fight with big guys which he hate because he's a small guy. Secondly I think the reason beside this is that curley wife wants all the other guys would pay attention to her and about curley,he hates big guys which makes him angry and always wants to pick a fight with them.

Curley was in the bunk room beating up Lennie. Curley was looking for his wife and saw Lennie laughing. Curley thought Lennie was laughing at him when he really wasn't. Curley then started to beat up Lennie while George is screaming to Lennie to fight back. Lennie then grabs Curley's fist as he is about to punch him again, and Lennie crushes Curley's fist. The damage to Curley's fist was so bad he was taken to the hospital. Slim forces Curley to say his hand was crushed by a machine. There were hardly any bones left in Curley's hand, and Curley was crying.

How is Curley's Wife presented and developed in Of Mice and Men?

I have literally just finished my coursework on how Steinbeck presents and develops Curley's wife. I started off on how she has no name and how her name makes her possession of her husband- Curley, i also said about how she wears red- which is a sexual colour back in the old days ;) and still is now in a way. In the next paragraph i mentioned how shes the only girl on the ranch and is lonely with Curley and does not want to be with him so she flirts with the other ranch workers to get the attention she thrives. In the third i mentioned about her dream she once could have had as a Hollywood movie star and said about Lennie and George not being the only ones with a dream and explained she blames her mother for not giving her the letter that they may have sent ALTHOUGH her mum says she didn't receive one, which makes us think whether she actually didn't and just thinks her mum has ruined it for her and now is stuck with Curley. And in the last one i said how Lennie is meant to stay away from her and loves stirring things up as she knows he isn't the brightest tool in the box and how she dies :)
