What does 'Japan' mean?

日本 is the origin of the day. It can be said either as Nihon or Nippon.

The older name of 大和 Yamato could be loosely translated as Great Peace.

The name Japan, was an alteration of the word told to Marco Polo by the Chinese for an island county to the east.
