What does 2 Timothy 2 19 mean?

To understand the meaning of 2 Timothy 2:19, one should read the entire chapter to put this verse in context. One would note that the Apostle Paul, writing this inspired letter to Timothy, was speaking about the harm that apostates (those in the christian congregation who were trying to introduce false teachings) were already inflicting upon some in the congregation. Paul wrote "Despite that, the solid foundation of God remains standing, having this seal, 'Jehovah knows those who belong to him' and 'Let everyone calling on the name of Jehovah renounce unrighteousness' ". This is the only mention in The Bible of "Solid foundation of God". One of the things that the Bible uses "foundation" as a metaphor for is Jesus role in Jehovah's purpose. Paul mentions "The solid foundation of God" in the same context in which he quotes Moses' words about Korah and his supporters (Numbers 16:5), to remind him of Jehovah's ability to detect and counteract rebellious acts. The "Seal", or Identifying mark would indicate that Jehovah knows who belong to him and would reject "Counterfeit Christians".
