Bay refers to the color of the horse. It ranges from reddish shades 'blood bay' to sandy to mahogany. The distinguishing characteristic of a Bay is the mane, tail and sometimes lower legs are black and ear tips are edged with black.

Bays are horses or ponies that have a brown coat/body and a black mane, and tail. Sometimes the horse will have back lower legs and black ear tips. You can get bright shades of bay and dark shades of bay (like my horse Monty!!)
