As Marc Antony was well known as a friend and ally of Julius Caesar, the first thing Antony did when he learned of Caesar's assassination, was to fortify himself in his home. He did this fearing for his own life, based upon his close association with the fallen dictator. In fact the leading conspirator, Brutus had entertained killing Antony but decided not to do so. There is no definitive reason in historical documents that indicates why Antony was spared. Antony next obtained all the papers and funds Caesar had left in his palace. At the same time he summoned all of Caesar's loyal military veterans to Rome. Based on his authority as Tribune, Antony by March 27 convened the Senate and accepted Cicero's proposal for a general amnesty for anyone involved in Caesar's death. Antony also agreed that 2 of the main conspirators, Brutus and Cassius be given provincial governorships on the condition that the Senate ratify all of Caesar's outstanding decrees & appointments. These acts were a clever deception to appear not to seek revenge against the conspirators.
His opinion on Marc Antony is that Antony is just the limb of Caesar. There is no point in killing him either. Antony is a friend of Brutus and he seems loyal but then Brutus will soon find out that Antony is a traitor to him and but of course despises him.

The second triumvirate was made up of Lepidus, Octavian and Marc Antony. It formed out of desperation because of the political disruption and civil war between Octavian and Antony. (Actium is the most famous of their civil wars, but Antony and Octavian had another, earlier one) The senate officially commissioned the three men to find and punish the killers of Julius Caesar.
