What does BAE mean at BAE systems?

Technically the term BAE doesn't stand for anything in particular.

For many large UK based multinational companies there has been a wish to remove the word 'British' as this implies that the company serves a domestic market only and doesn't convey the right global image. However as the brand names are generally well known it has been effective to simply rename the company using the initials. This is why there is no longer a British Telecom (now simply BT), and British Petroleum is BP. Y

Historically, BAE formed from the amalgamation of several companies, the largest being British Aerospace (BAe). This is the origin of BAE.
