It stands for nothing other than Nissan's model designation. In the U.S. the D21 is called the Hardbody.
have you replaced and or tested both coils? are you getting no spark on the intake and the exaust sides?
gearbox will fit, but the bellhousing may need to be swapped if you have both it is only 4 bolts to swith a a bell housing from one gear box to another
no 84 and 85 change out.
Don't remember exactly on your rig but I'd check these things. Is the starter properly installed? (it's tight and sitting correctly) Are you sure it's the right starter? Bad starter? Bad cylinoid? I don't know why you replaced the starter to begin with but is it possible the teeth on the flywheel are bad? Hope this helps. Hang in there, you'll get it.

they are the same truck,look em up at autozone.com,youll see what i am saying. D21 is the Official Nissan Designation of the Truck. Hardbody is the "Nickname"
