In the comics, Donald Blake is initially Thor's human alter ego. In order to transform into Thor, Donald would strike his cane (which is actually Mjolnir in disguise) on the ground, causing a transformation into the God of Thunder. As the character evolved, Donald Blake and Thor were ultimately revealed to be two separate entities coexisting within the same body.
