In Genesis 10:1-31 the son's ( Shem, Ham, and Japheth) of Noah and their families are listed and the nations they settled after the flood. And in verse 32 it says, "These were the families of the sons of Noah.....etc."
After you have read the 31 verses with all the names and places, then vs. 32 reminds you that these were the families of the sons of Noah, sort of like an after reminder note.
The names of Noahs three (3) sons were: Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Moses records this fact in the book of Genesis in several places, see chapter 5 verse 32, chapter 6 verse 10, and chapter 7 verse 13.
