This is something of a difficult question which is certainly open to debate. For one thing, it depends on which god one is talking about. There is a strong stigma against suicide in many religions, however some seem rather neutral on the subject. In ancient Japanese culture, for example, it was not uncommon for those who felt they had dishonored their families or had failed their leaders to commit suicide. In that case, they certainly seemed to think that their duty to a master was of greater importance than any question of right or wrong in supernatural terms. If we are to assume that one means the Judeo-Christian God, there are a couple angles from which to examine the question. On the one hand, there has been a long-running feeling with regard to suicide where some people believe that it is somehow "unforgiveable" or would result in eternal punishment. Looking past this to actual biblical text, however, and becomes clear that this idea of suicide being punishable by hell is not very biblically founded. It comes down to a matter of weighing text and rendering an opinion, and I believe it is feasible to say that suicide is not necessarily a "more evil" thing to do than any other sinful act, but that it is however sinful.

One could base this upon the idea that the God of The Bible is recorded as having created life (Genesis 1), and also because Jesus reputedly died to overcome the pain of death. Look at 1st Corinthians 15:50-58 to see the admonition that, because Christ died and will redeem those who accept Him from death, death "has no sting." We see here not only that Jesus' sacrifice is of an anti-death nature, but also that the attitude doesn't seem to be "one can overcome death so life doesn't matter" but instead the writer says "Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you." In essence, it would not be unreasonable to guess that while God does not hate those who are considering suicide, He looks upon it as something unacceptable. It works against His redemptive plan and is of course not beneficial to the person who is going to die nor to those close to that person. In the same book (1 Corinthians 10:13) the writer also proclaims that "God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it." Though God does not claim to be unsympathetic to depression or a desire for suicide, His plan and ideology seems to focus more on finding a way out, to something better.

Life is a gift from God. Although, at times life may feel more like a burden than a gift. Can you imagine, though, how you would feel if you were to give a valuable gift to someone who then threw it away before really putting it to use?

Also the Bible says that God loves us very much, and that he views us as his children. If you had a child that died, you would be very sad.

The Bible (Jesus) says in Matthew 10:29. Do not two sparrows sell for a coin of small value ? and Yet not one of them will fall to the ground without your Father's (Gods) knowledge, illustrating how much more precious, our life is to God.

Jesus resurrected people from the dead, which showed that death was not to God's liking.

I Corinthians chapter 15 v 26 speaks of death as an enemy

If a person is an unbeliever then suicide is not that important because the ultimate sin is rejecting/not believing God's son.

If a person is a Christian then that's a tricky question because why would a believer commit suicide? God word says do not kill. So it is hard to give a definite answer.

But one thing you can be sure of God's judgement will be according to the truth.
