I could not find an official color guide for the flag, but according to a historical listing, two of the most recent and most commonly used color schemes describe it as "0/100/90/0" in CMYK or "032 Coated" in Pantone.
Common well-known variations include the war flag of the Imperial Japanese Army, which keeps the previous specifications but also includes several red wedges radiating from the central disc. Also included is the Naval Ensign which is similar in design to the war flag with the exception that the red disc is located to the left of center.
