Jesus said that 'there is more happiness in giving than in receiving'(Acts 20:35), that his true followers are to 'practice giving' (Luke 6:38) and that they would love one another just as HE had loved them (that is, to the point of being willing to die for one another-John 13:34+35). Because of this love Christians would have for one another, John wrote of the importance to supporting one another when in need at 1 John 3:17-18, where it says: "If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth."(NIV) And this should be done without complaining (2Corinthians 9:7; Acts 20:35; 1Peter 4:9). Paul also wrote in Hebrews 13:16: "...do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased." (NIV)(Romans 12:13) A good example of this is found at Romans 15:26. Faith, of course, is 'dead', without works, so as James 2:14-17 says:"Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, "Go in peace; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead."(NIV) (James 1:27) In the scriptures, there are several examples of this (Acts11:28-30; Romans 15:25-27; 1Corinthians 16:1-3; 2Corinthians 9:5, 7).
