The first chapter of John has many sayings of John the Baptist.
Most immediately with reference to "the Lamb of God" John the Baptist said that he takes away the sin of the world, and that he (john) was not worthy to even untie Christ's sandal straps.
Both of these statements are key to faith in Christ. The first has to do with the death Christ was to suffer for the sins of the world, and the second has to do with Christ's pre-eminence. In saying he was unworthy to untie Christ's sandals, John the Baptist was acknowledging that Christ was well beyond himself and I am certain he understood from scripture that the Messiah was God Himself (the Holy One of God).
Lamb of God, Is Jesus Christ, when a perfect man on earth. As he is now in heaven, he is to be known no more according to the flesh that he sacrificed. (2 Cor. 5:16)
For this reason, He is interest in all members of the human family regardless of color, race, tribe, nation or language. This is just as it should be, inasmuch as the Lamb of God died for all mankind, not for just one people or nation.
What a stirring theme Jesus introduces-everlasting life! Having been given "authority over all flesh," Jesus can impart the benefits of his ransom sacrifice to all dying humankind. Yet, he grants "everlasting life" only to those whom the Father approves.(John 17:3)
In the old testament god told Moses to sacrifice a lamb and sprinkle the blood on the door. So Jesus was a lamb sacrificed for us sinners. John the baptist , when he saw Jesus said. The lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world.
A lamb.
John 1:29 - The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, "Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!"John 1:35, 36 - Again, the next day, John stood with two of his disciples. And looking at Jesus as He walked, he said, "Behold the Lamb of God!" [NKJV]
John the Baptist
A lamb
These famous words were said by, John the Baptist as he saw Jesus walking by.
John the Baptist calls Jesus the 'lamb of God'. - Joh 1:29. Here Jesus is being directly likened to the passover lamb. The passover lamb had to be perfect with out blemish. Jesus was born without sin, he lived a sinless life. The passover lamb had to die and it's blood was shed to save Israel's first born from death. In the same way it was necessary for Jesus to die as payment for sin. The lamb's blood had to be painted on the the door frames to show God the people were trusting Him for salvation. Salvation is the same today through faith in Jesus and His death as the payment for our sin.
There are many Johns in the New Testament, all had different things to say. But one John (the baptist) said: Behold the lamb of God, who taketh away the sin of the world. KJV John 1:29.
Saint John was called by Jesus while he was fishing with his brother, Saint James, on the Sea of Galilee. Jesus called out to them and they immediately left their fishing boats and followed Him, becoming two of His twelve apostles.
Both St. John the Baptist & St. John the Apostle(the author of Revelation)refer to Christ as the Lamb.
John the Baptist called Jesus "the Lamb of God." This title signifies Jesus as the sacrificial offering for the forgiveness of sins, drawing on the imagery of a lamb being sacrificed in Jewish tradition.
A name for the Savior used by John the Baptist and others (John 1:29). It has reference to Jesus being a sacrifice for the sins of mankind. 1 Cor. 5:7; 1 Pet. 1:19.
