Around the world there are organisations that supervise commercial food production to ensure the products are kosher. Each organisation has its own symbol, called a hechsher, so that consumers know who supervises the products they're buying. A lot of hechshers are a combination of letters and images.

The letter K on its own doesn't mean anything. However, because the letter 'K' can't be trademarked, some companies will print a K on their packaging to make people think the product is kosher when it isn't.
