Was Cleopatra in love with Marc Antony?

Why did Cleopatra tell Marc Antony that she was dead?

This is one of history's mysteries. All the ancient writers say about this is that Antony received an erroneous message that Cleopatra was dead. Cleopatra herself either never sent the message or the message got misinterpreted. Something like, "Cleopatra is in her tomb", instead of "Cleopatra is hiding out in her tomb". Antony, hearing that she was in her tomb, would naturally assume that she were dead.

Why did Antony think that Cleopatra died?

You have to remember the scene in Alexandria at the time. Cleo and Antony were defeated, Octavian was about to enter the city. There were going to be consequences for both Antony and Cleopatra. Cleopatra went into hiding. Some think that Cleo deliberately caused a message to be sent to Antony saying that she was dead, and with that certainty, she knew Antony would commit suicide. That way she could try to pin all the blame for the war on Antony. (which according to Plutarch, she tried) Others think it was a matter of miscommunication. All the ancient writers say is that Antony received a message saying that Cleopatra was dead. They don't say if this message was written or oral. If it were an oral message, which would make sense, as the city was in turmoil and a written message could be easily confiscated by the Romans who were looking for Cleopatra, it could very easily have been garbled. As Cleopatra wanted Antony to know where she was hiding, her messenger could very easily have said "Cleopatra is in her tomb" instead of "Cleopatra is hiding out in her tomb". Therefore Antony thinks that Cleo is dead. This makes the most sense.

Did Antony defeat octavian at the battle of actium in 31 bce?

No, it's the other way around. Octavian whipped Antony in the battle of Actium. Or perhaps it would be better so say that Marcus Agrippa whipped Antony in the Battle of Actium, as he was Octavians general and military strategist.

Was Marc Antony cremated?

More than likely he was not cremated. Now even though cremation was the Roman custom of burial at the time of Antony's death, Antony requested that he be buried in Egypt and the Egyptian custom of burial was mummification and interment. If they ever find his and Cleopatra's tomb, we will know for sure.

How do you say were in shakespearean or elizabethean?

"Were" is "were" "A crew of patches, rude mechanicals . . . were met together to rehearse a play." (Midsummer Night's Dream Act III Scene 2) "so perfumed that the airs were love-sick with them; the oars were silver . . ." (Antony and Cleopatra Act II Scene 2). "Shakespearean" and "Elizabethan" are not different languages--they are at most a dialect of modern English.
