ミカド
Mikado
I am guessing you mean 'The Mikado' by Gilbert and Sullivan. This is a comic opera and their ninth of fourteen operatic collaborations. It opened on 14th March 1885. By setting the opera in Japan Gilbert was able to satirize British politics and institutions more freely by disguising them as Japanese.
No the title of Pharaoh was unique to Egypt, the Japanese hadEmperors which were called Tenno, or Mikado.
The Mikado pheasant is not a flightless bird but they hardly fly, they live in mountains so when they are in danger, they hide in tall grass or bushes. I love Mikado pheasants. They are so elegant! I live in Taiwan but I never saw it before, only in photos! Oh! and I'm Japanese!
