"The Mikado" is actually a comic opera, not a song, and it was written by the famous duo Gilbert and Sullivan. The opera, which premiered in 1885, features a libretto by W.S. Gilbert and music by Arthur Sullivan. It is set in Japan and satirizes British society and politics through its quirky characters and humorous plot.
Yes. She was in version of Gilbert & Sullivan's Mikado produced in 1982 for the BBC. She played a minor role in the chorus. I can't find her anywhere in the credits, but I can definitely see her on the screen and I'm certain it's her.
The last time I saw John Godfrey he was living in Kettering, Northants. I played with him in a six-piece band called Lost Weekend back in the early 80s - but I continued to bump into him occasionally in the 90s. He used to drink in a pub called the Mikado Pheasant in Kettering. He was, and probably still is, an excellent bass player, and often talked about his days with Mungo Jerry. Harry James
