It gives a preview of the play: the bitter quarrels of the Montagues and Capulets are ended only by the death of their children, Romeo and Juliet. The 16th century audience would expect drama and gore, making them excited.
Romeo might kiss well, but he kisses in a standard way, indicating that he has not kissed with true passion before. We learned earlier in the play that Romeo read romantic poetry to inform his relationship with Rosaline, and so he kisses with his preconcieved notions of love.

He changes his mind throughout the play. In Act I he tells Paris that she is too young and she should wait for a couple of years before she marries anyone. Later he decides that Paris should marry her right away, giving two days delay to prepare for the ceremony. Later still he changes the date again to a time only hours away, leaving no time to inform the guests and barely time to inform Paris and Friar Lawrence.
The character of the chorus in 'Oedipus Rex' is supposed to be impartial. Both the chorus and the chorus leader are supposed to inform the other characters, as well as the reading and viewing audience, of necessary background to the story. They're supposed to summarize the course of events fairly, without prejudice, but with respect for the will of the gods and justice for mortals.
