The first novel was written in Japanese by Murasaki Shikibu called "The Tale of Genji" and was published just after 1000 CE. Murasaki Shikibu is also female, but this novel..in 54 volumes!...is the first known distinct novel.
Katako(Kenshi) Fujiwara was born to Murasaki Shikibu and Fujiwara no Nobutaka in the year 999. She would eventually be known as Daini no Samni. Later on in life she was a famous poet, completely independent from her mother's title in the literary world.
