The concept of 'excommunication or disfellowship' is just not a simple definition. As such The Bible does not take this approach but more fully explains via examples what members should do to others who have a 'lapse' or stopped following the perfect example of Jesus. This can include actions of shunning, banning or even shaming the individual or group depending upon the religious organization involved.
The Bible explains that the Church of God Jesus began in 31 AD, is specially called by the Father Himself (John 6:44;65) in their individual lifetimes to do His great work. They are referred to as the 'little flock' (Luke 13:32) and are the firstfruits, seeking to be perfect and without spot (Ephesians 5:25-27) of God to become the bride of Christ at His 2nd Coming. Many scriptures are devoted to this message like this one:
Ephesians 2:19-22New King James Version (NKJV) Christ Our Cornerstone19 Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, 20 having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone, 21 in whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, 22 in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit. The process of disfellowship is discussed in Matthew 18:10-15 and in several other verses and behavioral situations (see Romans 14:15). Generally then, not following the Commands of God especially following the Sabbath Law which God never changed would be grounds for beginning the process of stopping association with the person or group.

Excommunication is a religious censure. It means to remove or suspend membership or fellowship in an organised religious community, such as in the Anglican or Catholic Church. Excommunication would suspend the right for a minister to celebrate the Eucharist or Mass and prevents the individual from being recognised in any votes or activities.
