I believe, not sure though, that mosque is just the English way of saying Masjid, which means, where you do sajda(prostration)... Mosque is not the original word... The original is Masjid.

Sorry, I don't know this answer but it is my duty to tell that please don't call mosque its Masjid. Islamic foundation has found that mosque means 'mosquito'.
