The Atlantic coastal plain stretching from Long Island, NY to northern Florida, and the Gulf of Mexico coastal plain the northern Gulf coast of Florida to southern Texas. The width of the Atlantic coastal plain ranges from about 10 miles in New York to more than 120 miles in North Carolina. The Gulf coastal plain consistently ranges from about 10 miles in width in north western Florida to about 50 miles in width in Texas.

Inland areas have a greater temperature range because water has a high specific heat. Basically, coastal areas heat and cool slowly because it takes a long time for the water to heat up and cool down (due to it having such a large specific heat).
