If it's mother is present, you may want to get her some food that will help her feed her baby or that has extra nutrients. If it's just you, then you would want to get some baby bird formula that you can most likely find at a local pet store.

It is best to feed budgerigars [budgies] pellet food and not mixed birdseed. Budgies can also eat fruit and vegetables, the only food that is not okay for them to eat is cantaloupe. Cantaloupe is poison to the budgie. The budgie can also eat any kind of grain, even your cereal if it doesn't have sugar in it.

I have owned both breeds & personally have not ever seen an overweight bird of this variety... or any variety. I really do not pay attention to how much seed is gone... but I do make sure it is always full. They have very fast metabolisms & really need their tray full & lots of fresh water.

Don't feed baby budgies unless the parents don't want to because the parents will feed them.
