Species of gecko that are native to hot and dry deserts tend to eat live prey. Insects, spiders, small mammals, small reptiles etc..My gecko (leopard) eats 12 large crickets a month u can try mealy worms and just keep them in the cage but mine did not eat them. It varies for every gecko.
