Dolphins survive in many ways but be specific. Do you mean how they survive from prey or survive in sleep? Dolphins survive from prey by pretending they are dead, or they can swim in schools. Dolphins survive in the water by turning half there brain of when they sleep so they can still see out of one eye.

The dolphin must have access to food and water, to allow it to carry out the necessary life processes to survive. For example: movement, respiration, growth, and reproduction.

Dolphins must also live in an unpolluted body of water, as pollution will slowly poison them and their food source (for example, the Baiji river dolphin of China, now extinct due to pollution). Some dolphin species can inhabit either fresh or salt water.

Dolphins need salt water or regular water i think but they need water and food which will also provide energy. Dolphins also need oxygen when they rise to the surface or the underwater plants which will also provide oxygen. They also need a suitable living condition (e.g.food, water, other dolphins e.t.c.) Dolphins also need to interact with each other or with other living/nonliving things. Those are the basic needs a Dolphin needs to live.
