It's a drill bit with a very sharp point for drilling hardwood without splintering it.
When you're on leave from active duty, you're on leave - you're not a member of the reserve or National Guard, and you don't drill with them.
The drill team red cord goes on the left shoulder, and the color guard white cord goes on the right shoulder.

If your asking what like things the program offers... then you have "Honor Guard, Color Guard, Raider Teams, Competition Drill Team, Rifle Team, and Fencing". Honor Guard- An honor guard, or ceremonial guard, is a ceremonial unit, a guard of cadets for Ceremonial Events. Competition Color Guard- Competition Color Guard is a group limited to 4 Cadets. American Flag, State Flag, and two Guard Rifles. Cadets compete for the best score. Raider Team- A competition team, the competitions involve team building, and leadership training. A great Experience. Competition Drill- A platoon competing for the best drill and ceremonies score. Rifle Team- Shooting targets with Air-Rifles, for competition. Fencing.... Look it up if you dont know. It is a great program. Source(s): I'm a cadet here at FHS.
Not sure about the "R", but the "UTA" portion stands for Unit Training Assembly, which would be your drill weekends. UTA-4 being a standard two day drill, and UTA-5 being a 2-1/2 day drill, IIRC.

In the active reserve/national guard , it is the day your unit must release you from active reserve duty. This means you do not have to drill once a month anymore but will probably still be in the inactive reserve for some time specified in your contract.
a random selection of people that adds up to 10% of the whole unit is drug tested.
