I'm an edit producer so hopefully I can help. Basically When a Channel orders a series of programmes, say 20 x 45 mins, these shows have to be planned, shot, and cut in a very short space of time. I used to direct shows and then get to cut them but those leisurely days are long gone!
An Edit producer will get an edit system full of rushes from a shoot and then have to build them up into a programme. Editing the sync and content as they go. Your editor will be picking the best shots and you'll be writing whatever voice over/ script is needed to tie the show together. The show will then get presented to the channel who will give you changes. Once these are implemented the proper presenter/ actor will come in and read the VO in correctly and with a lot more style! Then the show goes to air.
