^^^ Incorrect. Females have shorter tails, brown eyes and no bright markings typically. Males have longer tails, usually red or orange eyes, and yellow, orange or red scales on their legs. The tail length is hard to tell. I always knew mine by their coloring. Females are dull compared to males.

∙ 10y agoIt can be difficult to tell male and female box turtles apart. Possible clues that a turtle is female: (1) Eye color: brown or light orange. Males' will be red or red-orange. (2) Highly domed shell (carapace). A male's carapace is often flatter. (3) Females have very short tails. (4) The bottom of a female Box turtle (the plastron) is usually completely flat. A male's plastron will usually have an indentation for mating purposes.
