You might have heard of the fight or flight response in animals. Some animals like bears have the fight instinct, when something scares them they will stand and fight whatever it is and only run if they know they can't win. Horses have the flight instinct, if something scares them they will choose to run first and only fight if they have no other option

How do you make a horse more docile?

This really can only be obtained with the horse having experience. Only with drugs will a horse be more docile and that is not advised. As a horse goes through life the experiences it has teaches it what to fear and what not to fear, so the more the horse experiences the more it learns and the more docile it will become.
