they need many things

1.) proper lighting: iggs need both UVA and UVB light. I recommend the Powersun lights made by ZooMed. It needs to be within a certain distance from the basking spot of the igg (within 18in from igg's basking spot)

2.) proper heating: there should be a range of temp for the igg. the basking spot should be about 95-105 degrees Fahrenheit. there should also be areas that are about 70 degrees. Iggs need a body temp of 85 deg to properly digest their food.

3.) proper diet: there are many awesome references for this online i suggest greenigsociety.org for a good food list. Remember never feed animal protein to igs, and lettuce is not good for them either, because it is mostly water with little nutritional value. there is a calcium:phosphorous ratio that should be kept ( i believe it is 2:1, but there is a little disagreement on that point).

4.) humidity: igs naturally live in tropical regions, so they need high humidity. mist them with water and bathe them daily (they can be potty trained to go in the tub when bathed)

5.) clean habitat: enough said with that I think. When cleaning where they live, be sure to use pet safe products. I use healthy habitat made by natural chemistry. Having a clean environment will help to keep them healthy.

6.) Space: your ig should have sufficient space. there should be areas for them to climb, hide, bask, eat, drink, and most importantly turn around when they need to. (my ig has an open enclosure, so I dont worry much about space, but space IS important)

there are other things you will find that your ig needs, but that varies from ig to ig...good luck :)

Can you put a green iguana and a rhinoceros iguana in the same cage?

Iguanas are naturally extremely territorial. Housing Iguanas together, no matter what the sex can result in fighting, biting, and even death. Baby Iguanas will be okay in a cage until about a year old but after this each Iguana will need their very own space/enclosure. If your Iguana's free roam, they will need separate basking areas or even roams. If you are planning on keeping them in an enclosure, they will need VERY large homes to be healthy and happy. Think tall, 6' and double the length of your Iguana. My Iguana is only about 1.5 and she has already outgrown two enclosures. Best of luck!
