Absolutely Nothing! This is the main objection to Clausism from a Religious standpoint. the idiotic ( Kneeling Santa) involves confusing a biblical reality with a MYTH involving magic and- a 300-400 year time warp to get (Santa) to the Nativity Crib scene. It wold be like having James Bond ( a ficitonal character, hit in some explosion and transported to Elizabethan England- not a bad plot idea.

Not much, really, but I will try to make a case for him. First of all, St. Nick is much more than happy, old and dressed in red. He is the patron saint of children in the Roman Catholic Church (or was; he may have been excommunicated). Jesus also loved children, and it is hard to imagine Him being upset about the idea of an older gentleman giving away toys. Second, like him or not, Santa Claus represents two wonderful attributes of the season, that is, generousity and kindness toward others. Here is a nonathletic fellow, well on in years, living in a harsh climate, who selflessly devotes his entire life to providing gifts for youngsters he doesn't even know while putting himself in danger every year for their sake. Surely he is acting in a Christian manner. One could say that Santa is carrying on the example set by the Three Wise Men, who also went out of their way to give nice presents to a special Child.

What does a jolly old man in a trimmed red suit called Santa Claus have to do with the birth of the Son of God And what about reindeer and a flying sleigh?

No. Santa is a secular symbol at Christmas. He represents the idea of buying gifts for people. Somehow the basic philosophy of caring for our fellow man and peace on earth has been replaced with Black Friday and shopping. Our red and white Santa comes to us from a 1920's Coke Cola ad which seems to fit the commercial value of the season.
