A pulpit is generally used as a place for preachers to stand behind to speak God's word. It is, for lack of a better term, a piece of furniture that is about 40 inches tall and about 24 inches wide. It is a good place to set a Bible and a notebook. Some pulpits have a built in microphone with shelves below to store other books. Pulpits are generally in front of the worship area where people assemble.

A pulpit is an actual structure that surrounds the person.
