It means your blood pressure is excellent! Systolic is the pressure during the beat of your heart, diastolic is the pressure when your heart is between beats. 120 over 80 is considered very good and normal, so yours is great.

a cardiologist would treat a BP of 170 systolic for the reason that that 170 bp is at rest, not while you are up working sweating running worrying etc. at those times your pressure could creep much higher and endanger you for stroke, heart attack, or aneurysm.

What are normal values for blood pressure measurement?

Normal blood pressure levels are around 120 systolic and 70 diastolic. But the safe zone starts at 90 (low normal) up to 140 (high normal) on the systolic and 60 (low normal) up to 90 (borderline) with the diastolic. Much of it also depends on the individual and their height and weight as well.

What is the normal blood pressure for a 4-year-old?

The upper limit for normal systolic pressure in kids aged three to five will range from 104 to 116, depending on height and gender. The upper limit for diastolic pressure will range from 63 to 74

What is the average range for systolic blood pressure?

120 (sys) 80 (diastolic) is the classic answer for highest normal blood pressure in adults. For adults, healthy blood pressure targets depend on health history, with lower targets for adults with certain conditions. Children's blood pressure norms are based on age and height percentile.

Is 117 over 84 a healthy blood pressure for an 11 year-old boy?

Its not bad, but great either. It depends on the height, weight and overall health of the child. If the reading is that of an otherwise healthy person then THE SPREAD BETWEEN the diastolic(first) number and the systolic(second) number should be larger, at least forty points.

What is the normal blood pressure of a 10 year old female?

The short, less accurate answer is that it should be about 100-120/60-75. The more accurate answer depends on the height. The "related link" is a calculator. To convert the height from inches to centimeters (cm) multiple by 2.54. The systolic is the top number and the diastolic is the bottom number.

What are the units used to measure blood pressure?

Blood pressure is usually expressed in terms of the systolic (maximum) pressure over diastolic (minimum) pressure and is measured in millimeters of Mercury (mm Hg).

What different ranges of blood pressure indicate?

When systolic blood pressure is 50 to 90, is considered low or hypotensive. When systolic blood pressure is 90-130 is it considered normal. When systolic blood pressure is 13-180 it is considered high or hypertensive.

What is the average Blood pressure for 14 year old boy?

He's probably old enough that your healthy blood pressure range approaches what it would be for an adult, 120/80 or less. Your doctor can best tell you what's normal for you. The following From kidshealth.org Measuring Blood Pressure Doctors typically measure blood pressure with a sphygmomanometer, which has a cuff that's wrapped around the upper arm and pumped up to create pressure. When the cuff is inflated, it compresses a large artery in the arm, stopping the blood flow for a moment. Blood pressure is measured as air is gradually let out of the cuff, which allows blood to flow through the artery again. The doctor or nurse will also put a stethoscope over an artery to hear the first pulse as the blood flows through - this is the systolic pressure (or the pressure at the peak of each heartbeat). The diastolic pressure (the pressure when the heart is resting between beats) is noted when the sounds disappear. When a blood pressure reading is taken, the higher number represents the systolic pressure and the lower number represents the diastolic pressure. For example: 120/80 (120 over 80) means that the systolic pressure is 120 and the diastolic pressure is 80. As kids grow, their blood pressure increases from a systolic pressure of about 70-90 in an infant to adult values in a teenager. Among young kids, the "normal" range will depend on the child's gender, age, and height; your child's doctor will be able to compare your child's blood pressure with national norms. In children, high blood pressure is defined as a blood pressure greater than the 95th percentile for their age, height, and gender (in other words, 95% of kids of the same age, height, and gender will have blood pressure below this number).

What is normal blood pressure for someone who weighs 225 pounds and is 5feet 4 inches tall?

Normal blood pressure is a reading under 120/80. This is the figure used for most people whatever your weight or height. Pre-hypertension is a reading between this and 140/90 and High blood pressure is anything over this. Some people, for example diabetics, have a high risk of heart disease, in which case it is advised that they aim for an even lower threshold (135/85). If a person has high blood pressure, both readings are usually above normal. Sometimes only the higher of the two (systolic) is raised and this is referred to as isolated systolic hypertension.

Is 101 over 69 a healthy blood pressure for a 13 year old?

One of the variables to consider when determining a proper blood pressure reading is height. A reading of 101/69 wouldn't be a concern for a shorter 13 year old, but if they are the 25 percentile in height or higher, that would be a low read.
