In contrast, a 'sell by date' is to retailers, that they must remove stock off their shelves at the date after (next day). Though such stock can be offered as a reduced item, provided the customer knows why it has been reduced.
A "use by" date means after this date, it is possible that the food is spoiled. Possibly the food is still safe but why take chances.
