Why does absence make the heart grow fonder?

you don't know what you have til it's gone

How can this reconcile with the other saying out of sight out of mind?

I can only conclude you mean " Abscence makes the Heart grow fonder " . Abscence DOES make the heart grow fonder with true love, but " Out of sight , out of mind " would indicate it was only a physical attraction.

Does love grow more when you are not together?

Many of our age old adages are not true and the one that's "Absence makes the heart grow fonder" is really not even close to being true. Initially there is a yearning and loss to a degree, but as time passes the two people grow apart. Common realities (goals, backgrounds, etc.) and good honest communication do make the heart grow fonder but not with a prolonged absence.

How can Absence make the heart grow fonder if being out of site means being out of mind?

Absence can make the heart grow fonder because it allows time for individuals to reflect on their feelings and appreciate their connection. While "out of sight, out of mind" implies a lack of immediate presence, being apart can spark longing and strengthen emotional bonds between two people.

Why absence makes the heart go fonder?

Absence does not really make the heart grow fonder. Absence usually makes people forget the bad quicker than the good. People forget why they broke up and wanted nothing to do with each other ever again. Still, as soon as people leave high school and go off to college, they usually break up with their high school sweethearts for someone else. So, unless there has been serious trauma, they usually forget or repress the bad and keep the good memories.

What does this proverb mean Absence makes the heart grow fonder?

It means that when you don't see someone for a long time, you miss them more and more every day and remember mostly positive qualities about this person. This applies strictly to something you would like back. The mind has a tendency to remember the good times and wants to relive those experiences. When something that you enjoy is removed from you ,you will put almost all the negatives out of your mind and focus solely on the good.To me the term "absence makes the heart grow fonder" means that when someone you care for or love is away from you, you realize that regardless of what your feelings were, his or her absence makes you realize just how much that person means to you and by missing that person, it makes your heart happy :-) and you realize just how much you care for that person and want that person in your life!It means that when somebody's away, someone else misses them and likes them more when they return. For instance: a person you're dating goes away on a business trip or something. While he/she is gone, you miss them and wish that they would return. When they do return you are so glad to see them that it seems as if you like them so much more. This proverb means that when two persons are being separated form each other, they tend to miss each other more the longer the period they are being separated .This proverb is used particularly to describe lovers, husband and wife, and very close friends.

Do you have the lyrics to a hymn they sing at communion called Receive in your heart?

The peace of the Lord is given to you, receive it in your heart. The joy of the Lord is with you too, receive it in your heart. Make it grow in you and me; make it glow for all to see. Show his love to all the world, it is in your heart. The Body of Christ is offered for you, receive him in your heart. The Blood of Christ is given too, receive him in your heart. Make it grow in you and me; make it glow for all to see. Take his word to all the world, it is in your heart. The Light of the Lord is steady and strong, receive it in your heart. The hand of the Lord will guide you along, receive Him in your heart. Make it grow in you and me; make it glow for all to see. Bring his strength to those in need; it is in your heart.

In dealing with men is it true that 'absence makes the heart grow fonder' or is 'out of sight out of mind' more true?

Anything dealing with men is mindless because they are complicated. The heart only grows fonder if it has fondness to begin with for the absent one. Out of sight/mind only works if there are no feelings left. Basically if you have love for this individual then either way you will find it hard to forget them. Men are like babys: they need the love and the nuturing but have a hard time expressing exactly how. Some men think it shows weakness to show emotions but I myself am grooming my son to be emotionally attached not detached from his and others feelings and that my friend will make for a better man. I say real men wear pink, cry and love all woman in there lives like their mothers, whole heartedly......... Depends on the circumstances under which you and the man are distant, his level of feelings for you, his mental health issues if any, and so on. After a breakup, some people tend to idealise the relationship as time goes on, meaning they recall the good things and not the bad things. In that case they might grow fonder (this is why some people try to re-contact). Some people deliberately try to forget the other person and move on, in which case they wouldn't, especially if they have a new person in their life. If it's simply a matter of geography that is the source of your distance, I would think the level of feelings involved and the possibility of being together would factor into it. In psychology and dealing with the male part absence actually does make the heart grow fonder. The male is a lot more likely to feel depressed and anxiety. They'll stress and loose weight, and be the ones to rack up quite a phone bill calling their significant other. Out of sight out of mind isn't the case most of the time. Also depends on the relationship. Strong feelings have to be involved to continue dating long distance. A lot of couples if it comes to a point where they have to move away will just cut all ends. So yes when dealing with men absence does make the heart grow fonder.

How do you know your girlfriend is good enough to be your wife?

You love her and she loves you back, unconditionally. ANSWER: You do, no one elses not even your own family, your best friends not even her friend. It's you that can say if this woman is worthy of you or if you are worthy of her. If you love her, your heart will tell you. Just look into her eyes and you might find something that will make your heart fonder. It is you ....no one else.
