If you're not a journalist or friends with an author or publisher, it's unlikely an advanced copy will ever come your way without you looking for it. As a rule they are given out only a few at a time. Sometimes advanced copies of books end up for sale online or in rare-book shops (although such reselling might be illegal, depending on whether or not the person to whom it was originally given signed a form promising to keep it private). I suggest looking on Amazon or eBay if there is a specific title you're looking for. Also check your yellow pages to see if you have any bookstores nearby that might have advanced copies.
