Like a silver No. 10 juice can with a pulley on the front
Well, its black and wraps itself around the smallest pulley on the alternator.
the alternator is about $80-95. i had to replace mine like 3 times. Its not difficult but very time consuming and cramped space.
will the solenoid in a car cause it to shut off like a bad alternator
If it's like my 1987, and I imagine it is, the alternator is internally regulated, so you won't find a voltage regulator box like you would on some older vehicles. In short, the voltage regulator is in the alternator.
If it is like a 1989 saab 9000, you remove the front passenger wheel, remove all the plastic from the wheel well, and the alternator should be rite there. You can also get to it by removing the manifold, which allows much easier access to the alternator, but then you need a new manifold gasket.
It sounds like you have a break in the wire which connects your alternator to your battery, get it checked out.
i have a 1988 Ford Bronco XLT 5.0 4x4. The truck will start and idle for about 15 to 30 seconds then acts like it has no fuel and dies.
it is problebly the alternator or the battery most parts stores like autozone and advanceauto will test them for free
If it's anything like later model falcons, then it should be 1,5,3,6,2,4.
Should be on firewall next to master cylinder
Sometimes a weak diode within the alternator can cause this. Your alternator may test out fine but have it checked anyway. I hope this helps you. Mark get your alternator checked out as it sounds to me like its on the way out
does it have a belt driven alternator ? you might be able to run it off the alternator like the jetta diesels do or any diesel for that matter but you may have to resize the alternator pulley to fine tune the readout. bosch alternators are used by vw but it gonna cost $$$. hope this helps
