An "In-Dash" GPS refers to the way that it is mounted to the vehicle.

In-Dash means that it is mounted the same way that a car stereo or CD player is mounted in a vehicle.

A lot of popular consumer GPS Navigation systems are not mounted in the dash - they are mounted by a suction cup to the windshield of the vehicle or some other type of external holder that is not original equipment of the vehicle.
