Ionic comes from "ion" as you might have guessed. An ion is a charged particle (either positive or negative), and ionic is the adjective meaning charged. An ionic bond is a chemical bond based on electrostatic attraction (the attraction of charges), and we generally associate it with the bonding of metals to non-metals. Salt, that is, table salt, is sodium chloride (NaCl), and it is an ionically bonded compound of one atom of sodium to one atom of chlorine. When salt is put into water, the salt dissociates into sodium (Na+) and chlorine (Cl-) ions. This forms an ionic solution of anions and cations, which are postitive and negative ions, respectively.

An atom has a certain number of protons, neutrons and electrons. When this atom loses or gains one or more electrons, it is now considered an ion. This means if an atom loses one electron (negatively charged), the atom now has a charge of +1 since it is not in balance with the positively charged proton. Thus, we have an ion.

Ions are elements of a compound which breaks when dissolved in a solvent like water. Ions have either positive or negative charge. Like if sodium chloride also known as common salt is dissolved in water it forms a positively charged sodium ion and a negatively charged chloride ion.

An ion is used to describe a "charged particle." The particle/atom can either be positively or negatively charged. Cations (+ve ions) have lost electrons to become positive, e.g Al=> Al3+ . Similarly, anions (-ve ions) have gained electrons, e.g Cl=> Cl-

Is a ion a type of lithium?

No an ion is not a type of Lithium. An ion is an atom or molecule where the total number of electrons is not equal to the total number of protons, giving it a positive or negative electrical charge. This does mean that you can have an ion OF Lithium which is positively or negatively charged.
