Can dentures teeth can be implant teeth?

It primarily depends on your anatomy and your occlusion (bite). If you want a couple of implants to stabilize a complete denture, that is an entire different scenario than if you want to replace all or most of your missing teeth with implants. There is not a simple answer, and would need to be evaluated thoroughly by a dentist who has experience doing implants, or a prosthodontist.

How much more do denture implants cost than regular dentures?

If you get dentures from a Prosthodontist, they are somewhere between $500 and $2,500 per arch. If you get them from a dentist, they are somewhere between $300 and $1,200 per arch. Regular dentures can be very uncomfortable, so it is worth it to pay the extra money for denture implants.

What is the prosthodontic management in a patient who has undergone hemimaxillectomy?

There are two different approaches associated with this type of resection. A Prosthodontist or Maxillofacial Prosthodontist can fabricate a removable prosthesis that replaces missing teeth, hard and soft palate and serves to close off the communication to the sinus area and nasal cavity. This prosthesis is called an Obturator. It is stabilized by the remaining palate and teeth. It enables the patient to be able to speak and eat normally. Another possible treatment is a more surgical approach where an autologous bone graft is obtained from another area of the body like the leg (fibula), hip (iliac crest), or scapula and it is used to replace the defect area. The placement of dental implants into this harvested bone is also needed in order to support fixed crowns. It is possible to wear removable prosthetics on top of this graft, however the graft needs to be done in a way that restores pre-surgical soft tissue contour, otherwise it may be difficult for the patient to wear any prosthesis that provides chewing capabilities, esthetics and phonetics. Not all patients qualify for the surgical approach for a variety of reasons.

What is a general dentist?

"General Dentist" refers to a dentist that has not limited his/her practice to any of the dental specialties. The specialties include oral surgeon, endodontist (root canal specialist), periodontist (gums specialist), pedodontist(children's dentist), orthodontist (straightens crooked teeth), prosthodontist (crown & bridge, denture specialist), and oral pathologist. A general dentist is trained to and can legally perform any dental procedure. Specialists on the other hand are dentists who have additional training in their specialty, and typically are limited to performing procedures within that specialty.
