They do the same job as terrestrial plants. They anchor the plant and keep it in place and they collect food (NPK and many other trace elements) which they send into the plant to enable it to photosynthesize and transpire in other words grow.

How do plants obtain water for photosynthesis?

Plants obtain water for photosynthesis through their roots, which absorb water from the soil. Water is then transported through the plant's vascular system to the leaves where photosynthesis occurs. The process of water uptake by roots is facilitated by osmosis, where water moves from an area of higher concentration in the soil to lower concentration in the root cells.

What do plants use to get water?

plants can absorb water through tiny pores in their roots. i dont know what the pores are called though. they also gain water by their leaves through holes which are called stroma, this is a gap in the leaf, and is surrounded by Guard Cells.
