Typically in motor talk, BHP stands for ''Brake Horsepower''. What that means, is that it is a measurement of an engines horsepower on its own, before it loses horsepower through other parts of the vehicle, such as the transmission, drive lines, differential/s, and the wheels. An engine with say 550 BHP, may only truly have 525 HP once the energy has transferred from the engine to the wheels.
