Cap is short for capacitor, so what it does really depends on the specific circuit it is being used in. It could be for power supply smoothing, noise reduction, part of a timing circuit to mention just a couple. It depends what other components are being used with the cap(capacitor) and how they are connected to each other.

What is starting capacitor and run capacitor?

A starting cap is placed in circuit of the start windings only when the motor is starting and is normally of a higher capacitance than a running cap, in the region of 70 - 120 mf, where a running cap stay connected with the start windings of the motor and is normally an 8 mf cap.

Coupling capacitors, in any circuit, are used to transmit the AC component of the circuit signal from one stage to another while isolating the two stages DC components.

Can a 1580 watt microwave be connected to a 15 amp circuit?

Yes, if the manufacturer installed a parallel blade 15 amp rating cap on the end of the cord then just plug it in. The circuit that you plug into should be a dedicated circuit (nothing else on the circuit) because the amperage will be 13 amps at 120 volts.

How does an RC work?

The resistor allows a slow charge to enter the capacitor. When this charge reaches a certain point the circuit activates and forces the capacitor to discharge. Once discharged the circuit reverses itself and starts the charge over again. The larger the cap and/or resistor the lower the frequency because it takes longer to charge the cap.

Why should electrical connections not be unplugged by pulling the cord?

By pulling a cord out of a receptacle puts a strain on the termination points inside the cap end. In a molded type of cap this damage can not be repaired except by replacement of the cap. On a cap with screw terminals the wire may pull loose of the screws and there may be a possibility that the cord could short circuit.

What is air-conditioner starting cap?

the simplest way to describe the job of a capacitor is to multiply the voltage across its terminals . whether they stay in circuit for whole cycle of just at beginning will determin if it is a stat capacitor, or a run cap
